I reported last week that Windows 10 has changed the way you setup your Default Apps. The biggest change is this has to be done within Windows System Settings, not from within the application. If you attempt to have the application to tell Windows it wants to be the default application you will get this annoying and unhelpful message: For Firefox, Mozilla has implemented a change coming with Firefox 40 that will open the Default Apps setting in Windows 10 when the user tries to make Firefox the default browser within Firefox. This is needed because it appears when a user…
After each major update there is always some people who are confused by the numbering scheme used for Thunderbird. Common question is why did the version number just jump up by 7? Thunderbird follows the Firefox ESR release numbering which means there is major release every 48 weeks or 7 regular updates of Firefox/Gecko. So, next big update will be Thunderbird 45 in March 2016. This is the tentative schedule for the next year: June 30th: Thunderbird 38.1.0 (Gecko 39) August 11th: Thunderbird 38.2.0 (Gecko 40) September 22nd: Thunderbird 38.3.0 (Gecko 41) November 3rd: Thunderbird 38.4.0 (Gecko 42) December 15th: Thunderbird 38.5.0…
The Thunderbird development team has delayed the release of Thunderbird 38 for about two weeks. Below was posted on the mozillaZine Thunderbird Builds forum on Monday: from tb-planing mailing list : R Kent James wrote: Thunderbird 38.0 will not ship on the same date as Firefox 38.0 but will likely be delayed a couple of weeks. We are approaching the originally scheduled date of the release of Thunderbird 38, which would be May 12 following the standard Mozilla release calendar. But there are still a number of regressions that we are working on, and last week’s beta was the first beta that…

There is an issue with Thunderbird 31.1.0 (released September 2nd) that has recently come to my attention. Mailing lists which contain a space in their name won’t work and Thunderbird will throw an error when attempting to send. This appears to be related to Bug 1060901 which is currently being worked. Depending on the severity of this bug, the patch may be deployed with the upcoming Thunderbird 31.2.0 release (scheduled for October 14th) or Mozilla may choose to do an emergency release which would be Thunderbird 31.1.1 once this bug is fixed. In the mean time, the workaround is to…
Bug 1044336 involves Thunderbird 31 and the Insert Link function. Users while composing a message are unable to paste via right-click into the Link Location field within the Link Properties box when using the Insert Link function. Users are getting the message no named anchors or headings in this page when they attempt to right-click in the Link Location field. User can still paste via they keyboard shortcuts CTRL+V or SHIFT+Insert. At this time there has not been much happening in regards to this bug so doubtful this will be resolved in time for the upcoming Thunderbird 31.1.0 release early next month.
Mozilla released an update for Thunderbird the 24.0.x branch on November 19th, 2013. Thunderbird 24.1.1 addressed an issue with Windows users receiving a UAC prompt when attempting to update Thunderbird using the Background Update service. See bug 926975 for more information. Depending on update settings, users should automatically be prompted to update to Thunderbird 24.1.1 or may do so manually via Help > About Thunderbird or downloading and installing via the getthunderbird.com site.
Contact the developer last night about the issue with Identity Chooser 1.8.2 not working with Thunderbird 20 Beta. Received an email earlier today with version 1.8.3 which works fine now with Thunderbird 20 Beta. Version 1.8.3 has already been released on AMO or you can update via your Thunderbird Add-ons Manager by right-clicking on the add-on and selecting Find Updates.
