In December 2012 I bought an Asus Nexus 7 tablet. This was the 2012 Wi-Fi only model as they did come out with a cellular version later on in 2013. I had used the tablet for school, community service project as well as for looking up information at home from the comfort of my couch. Everything was going great, that was until Google pushed out Lollipop (Android 5.x) late in 2014 and my tablet became a very expensive paperweight. It was sluggish and would freeze randomly. Oddly enough, it worked fairly well when I was using it as in car…

I’ve never been a fan of Apple products. They are over-priced and use proprietary parts and accessories. Yes their products are high quality. In the case of a phone or computer I figure the Apple brand is going to last the same amount of time as the non-Apple brand. So in that case I’d rather spend the money on getting more features (and be able to use third-party after-market parts and accessories). I have never owned a Mac, iPad, iPhone or even iPod (well, I did own an iPod touch for a couple days). I refuse to use iTunes, even though there are times I can get…
In their first quarter (ending June 30th, 2013) Lenovo sold more tablets and smartphones then they have PCs. However, while revenue from PCs was surpassed by their mobile devices, Lenovo is now the largest PC maker with a 16.7% market share. Lenovo’s biggest source of revenue has been from China. While only 42% of Lenovo’s overall sales are to China, the booming Chinese smartphone market accounts for a staggering 98% of Lenovo’s smartphone sales. While on the subject of smartphones, Lenovo is the 4th largest maker of Smartphones (4.7% of market). Samsung is dominating 1st place with 31.7% of the market followed…
The first Windows Phone commercial I have seen. Microsoft is holding nothing back with this Windows Phone commercial. They make fun of both Android (with the Samsung Galaxy phones) as well as Apple iPhone users. Not really sure if I want a Windows phone, last thing I want is a BSOD on my phone. Of course the BSOD was replaced in Windows 8 with a kinder, gentler “There was a problem with your computer” screen. The one thing that did bug me about Windows phones, at least the one I was playing with at a T-Mobile store a few months…
Microsoft has a habit of bashing/bad-mouthing their competitors. However, Microsoft’s Terry Myerson took it to a new level at this week’s D: Dive Into Mobile conference. Seems Myerson slamed Apple’s iOS for being “boring” and Google’s Android for being a “mess” because there are so many versions in the wild. Really?! So many versions of Android in the wild? Umm….Terry have you looked at your company’s number of versions of Windows in the wild? Well, let’s see there is Windows XP, Vista, 7 and 8 … and not even taking into account the “service packs” (3 for XP, 2 for…
I am seriously beginning to think the EU is leveling all these anti-trust violations and fines as method to bankroll their organization. It was bad enough when they went after Microsoft for “forcing people” to use Internet Explorer when they first load Windows on their machines. People are too stupid to take 2-minutes to download and install their favorite browser. Now, they are going after Goggle Android based on complaints from FairSearch: ” FairSearch argues that Google is using “deceptive conduct” to lockout the competition in the mobile search market. With 70 percent of the smartphone OS market, Google commands…

Not a good week for Microsoft… On Monday, news came of reference to a 128 GB capacity devices in the Beta 5 release to developers of Apple’s iOS 6.1 build. Rumors were that it could be an iPad 4 variant. This was confirmed the next day when Apple Announces 128 GB iPad 4 Priced. Not only will this new iPad 4 be released 4-days prior to the Microsoft Windows 8 Pro Surface tablet but it is going to $200 less. Later that day Microsoft confirmed the 128 GB Surface Pro Features 83 GB of Free Space. The 64 GB model will have about…
That is what Microsoft is using a an excuse for the lack luster sales of Windows 8. Microsoft is saying that PC Vendors didn’t make enough ‘enticing touchscreen tablets’ powered by Windows 8 for the 2012 Christmas season. Seems Microsoft had offered guidelines for hardware that they wanted on all Windows 8 machines (mainly touchscreens) to take advantage of Windows 8 touch interface. The manufacturers responded by claiming “….if they had followed Microsoft’s hardware requirements and invested in production, all they would accomplish is building a variety of high-end expensive tablets that consumers weren’t interested in.” So Microsoft is blaming the PC vendors for not…
