ALERT: As of version 15 released on August 29th, Waterfox now comes with bloatware and will attempt to install said bloatware without your knowledge or permission. Read more: Waterfox 15 & AVG. Linux and Mac users have enjoyed having a 64-bit versions of Firefox available to them for nearly the past two years. However, for us Windows users, Mozilla has been teasing us and/or dragging their feet with 64-Bit Firefox. As a point of clarification I should say that there has been since Firefox 4 (may be even further back) 64-bit Windows builds on the Nightly Developmental channel. These are not official releases and have never made…

Firefox for Tablets Nightly Launched

Mozilla has launched an updated nightly version of Fennec (Firefox for Mobile) which will run on Android based Tablets. According to the comments it also will work on Nook Color running CyanogenMod 7 as well as on some other OS such as Linux with a little hacking. Keep in mind this is still a nightly build, so there are still a lot of bugs and kinks to work out. One of the main bugs right now is the need to add a way to hide the tabs sidebar in landscape tablet mode. However, this will at least show the UI…

TenFourFox

Important: TenFourFox is not an official Mozilla product and is not an officially sanctioned build of Firefox. Further since this for the Mac I have not able to use this application, nor would I be able to provide any type of support. The reason for this post is to let Mac users who are on OS X 10.4 (or newer) running Power PCs that there is a way to get the new features that come with Firefox 4 and there is an alternative to Safari. TenFourFox is a custom open-source browser built-off of the new Gecko 2 rendering engine and…

7capture

Since the upcoming releases of Firefox 3.5, 3.6 and 4.0 are stalled at the moment, going to take this time to review some of the free software I’ve been using. First up is 7capture. As the name implies it is a screen capture application and works with Windows XP, Vista as well as 7. I was a big fan of FastStone Capture, but back in 2007 the newer versions were no longer free. Further when I tried to install it on my Windows 7 system, it did not work. So I started looking around for a new screen capture application….

IBM names Firefox its default browser

Quote “Firefox has become the default browser for nearly 400,000 IBM employees, a big coup for the open-source project during a time of increasing browser competition.” ‘All IBM employees will be asked to use it as their default browser,’ Bob Sutor, vice president of open source and Linux at IBM’s Software Group, said in a blog post Thursday. ‘Firefox is enterprise-ready, and we’re ready to adopt it for our enterprise.’…” July 1, 2010Source: Deep Tech - CNET NewsMore https://news.cnet.com/8301-30685_3-20009387-264.html

Pondering Linux

Note: I am posting this both on my personal El Guru and Firefox Extension Guru’s Blogs to get as much feedback as I can on this. As some my long time Firefox Blog readers may recall I had experimented a bit back in 2007 with Linux Ubuntu. Never really got a chance to do much with it as about six-months after I had installed Ubuntu I had to replace the computer. Given everything I do online, I could not be without a computer for a few days. Because of this I could not go my usual route and have one…

Foxit Reader STILL Free

This morning I opened my Thunderbird to find an alarming comment on the Adobe Acrobat vs Foxit Reader article. UHammerIT wrote: Capitalism Killed The FOXit reader And yet another one bites the dust. Foxit Reader is no longer a free product. O yeah, sure you can get a one year license for free if you buy something else (where they get 50% commission on the sales). Wonderful. I hardly blame them, they are developers and need money, but at least they could make their 2.0 version open source and continue with their commercial pro line. This truly and utterly sucks,…
