The Death of Photobucket

Congratulations Photobucket, you have successfully managed to kill in less than 15-days what was a very successful business for nearly 15-years. For those not familiar with Photobucket it was one of the original photo storing/sharing sites launched in 2003. It was extremely popular for blogs, forums and message boards which had limited or no hosting space for their users to post images. For the most part Photobucket’s service was free with limitations on hosting (storage) space and bandwidth. Before I moved to self hosting my blogs, I was a Photobucket user…a paid one at that too. However, I was paying…

Restoring the Gallery

Earlier this month I went through the process of installing theme and plugin updates for all the WordPress sites I host. I actively try to keep the sites updated as a I learned the hard way the damage and out-of-date plugin can cause. On the old gallery site I was using ZenPhoto which unlike WordPress, is not an easy application to install updates. So I had neglected to update the site for a while. One morning a couple years ago, I get online to find dozens of emails from my Firefox Blog followers (and a couple from my hosting company)…

El Guru’s Gallery 2.0 Now Open

Hopefully this will be the last time I will have to move The Gallery for a long while. As mentioned before, for security reasons I had to shutdown the old gallery which was using ZenPhoto. I have converted The Gallery to a WordPress site, allowing me to use the same Weaver theme across all the El Guru sites. This gallery uses the NextGEN Gallery plugin. Visit El Guru’s Gallery 2.0

Gallery Offline unit Further Notice

NOTE: gallery.elguru.me, azscenicephotos.com and thearizonasunset.com are being redirected to this blog post temporally. Due to security issues I am taking the gallery offline until further notice. I am working on getting the Gallery setup on a new content provider. While I did like the layout of Zen Photo, it has been a source of security issues on our server which has affected some of our sister sites. While Zen Photo has been prudent on updating their software, trying to install said updates is very difficult and time consuming. This usually requires a complete re-install of the application and sometime even requires recreating the galleries. An announcement will…

Gallery Fixed

It appears the Gallery had gone down on November 10th due to some issues with the gallery software. Users we’re seeing an HTTP 500: Internal Server error. We made some updates to the gallery platform (ZenPhoto) and were able to get the gallery restore on November 22nd. At this time there has been no new photos added since this past summer. I do have some photos on my Android that I still need to download and hope to get those posted in the coming weeks.

Gallery Restored

I really not sure what I did to get this to work. I had done a fresh install in another folder and had it working there, but a lot of the customizations were missing. I started poking around in the original folder trying to see if I could figure out what was wrong. Why was I getting a PHP White Screen of Death when attempting to access the gallery? Even looked at my servers error logs, which didn’t really tell me a whole lot. I somehow figured out that it seemed to be choking on the admin.php file. So I…

Extra Photos 2-Years Later

Again here are some extra photos which were taken while in Tempe last weekend. I have no idea what this is suppose to be. I think it is suppose to a piece of art as they have art at most of the light-rail stations. I swear it looks like a giant scratching post. This is at the McClintock and Apache station. Street Entertainer, Magician Shawn Greer. Riding a unicycle while playing the fiddle at The Tempe Festival of the Arts. Historic Hayden Flour Mill located on Mill Avenue between First Street/Rio Salado and Third Street.

Tempe 2-Years Later Part 2

As I mentioned in the prior post, some things have not changed. Case in-point The Centerpoint Condominiums. This residential project started in 2005 feature two towers, 22 and 30 floors. Construction stopped sometime in 2008 when the original lender declared bankruptcy. The smaller tower was nearly completed and the second tower only half way completed. This project remained idle until the property was sold to a new developer at the end of February 2011. The new developer not only changed the name to West Sixth and the type of property (now apartments). Centerpoint Condominiums - Downtown Tempe April 2009 West…

Tempe 2-Years Later Part 1

It has been nearly two year since the The Changing Downtown Tempe Skyline & New Construction in Tempe posts from April 2009. I happen to be back out in the area last week for The Mill Avenue District Festival of the Arts. A lot has changed and surprisingly some things haven’t. Here we have the area of McClintock Drive and Apache Blvd, a little over a mile east of the ASU Main Campus.
