This has to be by far the best extension I have seen for Thunderbird yet! I really hope this becomes a standard feature in TBird 3 as this makes viewing links in e-mail so, so easy! The extension installs a min-browser in the preview pane. When you are viewing e-mails the preview pane behaves as normal displaying the e-mail’s content. However, click on a link in the e-mail and it will load up the page right there in Thunderbird. Thunderbird 1.5
Recently a comment was left on my Get Mail Extension stating the add-on was no longer on AMO (addons.mozilla.org) and provided a link to his Toolbar Buttons extension. Once installed and you restart Firefox (SunBird, Flock or Thunderbird) right-click on the toolbar and select ‘Customize…’ , you will discover a treasure trove of new toolbar buttons. Simply drag and drop the buttons to your toolbar. Important: be sure to click ‘Done’ when finished. If you click the X instead, your changes will not be saved. A couple buttons I found useful were Undo Close Tab and Check for Update (much…
Mozilla’s support policy is an older version (in this case 1.5) of an application will (normally) be support for six months after the release of the new version. However there are exceptions, take for instance Firefox 1.5. Given this rule, support should have ended back on April 24th. However the final build (1.5.0.12) was not ready as anticipated so support will officially end when 1.5.0.12 is released on or around May 22nd. On April 18th, Thunderbird 2 was released which means support for Thunderbird 1.5 will end on October 18th. Keep in mind TBird 1.5.0.12 will be released the same…
The latest version of the Thunderbird 1.5 builds was released yesterday (March 1st). This update contains stability improvements and a couple of security fixes (one fix which is labeled as critical). Users who have not been presented with an upgrade offer should be able to upgrade via the Help Menu and selecting Check For Updates… If you can not or are getting an error when trying to upgrade, you can get the new version here. There are some extensions that I simply wonder how did I ever get along with out them? FoxyTunes is one of those extensions and by far the most used. Since I am always using WinAmp to listen to my music anytime I am using the computer (not just surfing the web), FoxyTunes makes things so much simpler. With FoxyTunes, you can control (right from the Firefox browser) virtually any music/media player including: WinAmp Real Player iTunes Windows Media Players Yahoo!Music Engine and many more (see the extension page for a complete listing) Once installed and configured, FoxyTunes adds all the…
Today Mozilla has released three major updates (postponed from December 14th): Firefox 1.5.0.9, likely to be the last release on the 1.5 builds. Firefox 2.0.0.1, 183 bug fixes including (but not limited too): Crashes (42), Memory Leaks (3), Regressions (41) and Privacy Related (4). Thunderbird 1.5.0.9, 7 bug fixes* including: Build Configuration (2), Functionality (2), Spellchecker (1), Mac-specific (1) and Miscellaneous (1) Auto-updates should start kicking in later this evening. Along with Firefox 1.5.0.8, Mozilla has gone ahead and released Thunderbird 1.5.0.8 today as well. No release notes for this version at this time. Download available from the Thunderbird Product Page.
One of my favorite extensions from back in the Firefox 1.0.* build days was ChromEdit. Unfortunately, when Firefox 1.5 came out that extension was broken and the developer never made a newer version. I am not sure but I think I had tried to force it to work with Nightly Tester Tools without luck. Someone had come out with a newer version for Firefox 1.5 builds (and this may be the newer version). Today I came across ChromEdit Plus which has the same features as the original ChromEdit and some others: Edit userChrome.css, userContent.css & user.js files Open Profile Folder,…
One thing many people have complained about in regards to Mozilla Thunderbird is unlike Outlook, it does not have a calendar. Today on CyberNet News I came across this entry: Mozilla Sunbird And Lightning 0.3 RC1 Available. Mozilla Sunbird is a standalone calendar application where as Lightning is a Thunderbird Extension. While I have not yet had a chance to a look at Sunbird, I have installed and started briefly using Lightning. Here are some of the features: Adds a ‘Calendar’ Menu option which allows you to view your calendar in your message and preview panes. Adds Lightning pane in…
Along with Firefox 1.5.0.7, Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 has been released as well. The release notes for Thunderbird are a bit brief: Improvements to product stability. Several security fixes. The Mozilla and OSU OpenSource Labs FTP Servers appear to be overload at this time but you should be able to download Thunderbird 1.5.0.7 directly from the product page. Most users should be able to upgrade Thunderbird (if it hasn’t told you to do so already) as well as Firefox by going to the Help menu and selecting ‘Check For Updates…’
