Thunderbird 11

There are a couple useful extensions that will undo the UI changes introduced in Thunderbird 17 as well as the changes to the tabs back with Thunderbird 11. Both of these will work together fine, or you can install on or the other depending on how you would like your Thunderbird UI to be setup. Rise of the Tools - Moves the tabs below the menu bar. Thunderbird still does not have a ‘Tabs on Top’ option that can be changed via the View Menu like that in Firefox. No Restart Needed Title Bar Tabs Cleaner - Restores the Windows Title…

I really don’t pay that much attention to the tab behavior in Thunderbird. In fact, I don’t really use tabs much I just have my mail in one tab and Lightning.Calendar in another. A user in the forum recently reported an on going issue they have been having with using tabs for RSS feeds in Thunderbird. Besides the content loading slowly, each time they switched away from the tab and then back, they would “lose their place”. At first I thought this was just an issue related to using Thunderbird to handle RSS feeds, something that I never done with…

Thunderbird 11.0.1 Released

Mozilla released an update to Thunderbird 11.0 on March 28th to address a couple pesky bugs: bug 733731 - Fixes an issue that may cause hangs when handling IMAP mail bug 735940 - Fixes an issue that may cause filters that move mail to specific folders to be erronously (sic) changed I had not run into issues with the first bug, but had heard from users who were affected. The second bug, I had run into on the laptop, especially when Thunderbird was trying to re-sync my IMAP accounts upon resuming Windows from hibernate mode. There were a couple times…

Lightning/Thunderbird 11.0 Issues

Updated Thunderbird on the laptop this morning to the new version 11.0 and noticed Lightning had stopped working. That is normal as whatever version of Lighting is installed only works with one version of Thunderbird. Looked in the add-ons manager and noticed there was an update of Lightning ready to go, just needed to restart Thunderbird for it to install. I tried to restart Thunderbird but noticed even though I had clicked the restart it was still running in the background. After killing the process and restarting Thunderbird it acted like Lightning was not even installed (no calendar options). I…

One of the big new features (as far as the developers were concerned) with Thunderbird 11 was having the tabs on top. It is suppose to “facilitates navigation and make it more contextual”. Um…what the heck is that suppose to mean? Okay, so Firefox has had this feature since the release of Firefox 4 last spring, so why shouldn’t Thunderbird? I have been using Thunderbird 11 since the Beta release at the beginning of February and hadn’t given much notice to the new (and not improved) UI. Now that Thunderbird 11 has been officially release, the complaints are rolling in…

Mozilla has opted to err on the side of caution and has announced the delay of this Tuesday’s planned Firefox releases. Since Mozilla normally pairs up the Thunderbird releases with Firefox, this week’s planned Thunderbird releases will likely be delayed as well. These include the release of Thunderbird 11.0, 10.0.3 ESR and 3.1.20 builds. A couple reasons for this delay: Possible conflicts (as has happened in the past) with Microsoft’s Windows Update Tuesdays. Reports from ZDI about a security vulnerability that could require a patch for the upcoming releases. Mozilla plans on still doing the planned releases this week, but…
