Thunderbird 3

I really don’t pay that much attention to the tab behavior in Thunderbird. In fact, I don’t really use tabs much I just have my mail in one tab and Lightning.Calendar in another. A user in the forum recently reported an on going issue they have been having with using tabs for RSS feeds in Thunderbird. Besides the content loading slowly, each time they switched away from the tab and then back, they would “lose their place”. At first I thought this was just an issue related to using Thunderbird to handle RSS feeds, something that I never done with…

A while ago I wrote about the ProfileManager application created by J. Griffion. This application provided a new UI to managing profiles in Firefox, but it can also do so in Thunderbird. The trick is it needs to be setup as a separate application/short-cut and passing Thunderbird as an argument. A couple years ago the development of Thunderbird was split off from Mozilla into its own separate organization, Mozilla Messaging. This did not work out as well as hoped. Case in point, future development after Thunderbird 3.0 has been rather lacking over the past couple years. Mozilla has decided to re-take control of Thunderbird and merge Mozilla Messaging into Mozilla Labs. Mozilla Labs is a specialty team that handles the development of experimental projects such as Personas, Jetpack, Sync and Test Pilot to name a few. David Ascher will continue to head the development of Thunderbird under the new Mozilla…
